Old School Box Breaks: 1997 UD3 Baseball

UD3 was a brand I very fondly remember, mostly because of the basketball version of the product. It's a unique set as it's basically 3 uniquely different set within a set. Each 20 card "set" features a different technology..the Future Impact featuring a "Cel-Chrome" finish, PROmotion featuring Light FX and Homerun Heroes featuring Electric Wood. When I was a kid it was definitely a cool looking set. I decided to get a box of this off Ebay for Cheap.
What To Look For: This is another one of those products where the base cards themselves are the supposed to pretty much be the sought after cards. You only get 3 cards a pack so if buying by the pack it's not an easy task to pull a superstar, though what helps is the small checklist. There's only 60 cards in the set. There are a couple of inserts to chase. The Generation Next insert is a relatively easy insert at 1:11 odds. Should be 2 in this box. The only other insert is Marquee Attraction which comes at a rate of 1:144 packs. There are autographs inserted as well, but at 1:1500 packs. The odds are, I'll only pull 2 Generation Next inserts though it'd definitely be nice in the very least to pull a Marquee Attraction insert.

Overall Thoughts: Pretty fun break. About what I thought. Almost got a complete base set as there are only 60 cards in it. Came 3 short in the PROmotion subset. Absolutely love the card designs especially the Home Run Heroes set and was happy to pull Griffey. There are only 3 inserts so and two of those (Marquee Attractions and Superb Signatures) are 1:144 and 1:1500 respectively so wasn't really expecting to hit those out of a single box. Did beat the odds and get 3 Generation Next cards and 2 of them were of the better names on the Checklist (A-Rod and Vlad). Pics of cards below!

  1. Neat looking cards. UD 3 is kind of a forgotten brand, hardly ever see any posts about it. I'm only a handful away from completing the NBA sets, I should really work on that. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. No problem! I'd love to open an UD3 Basketball box if I could find one at a reasonable price!!

  2. Great looking stuff. Whenever I see these sitting in dime boxes, my brain automatically thinks they're inserts.
