Box Breaks: 4 Boxes of 2017 Topps Stadium Club Baseball Hobby

Topps Stadium Club baseball was the brand that brought me back into collecting last year. I dunno, something about the photography just pulled me in and it was the first cards I preordered in route to returning to this hobby. Makes sense I'd give it another whirl this season. Now I luckily preordered mine before they went to INSANE prices (Currently priced at a BONKERS $120 PER BOX!!) and got mine for a little over $63 a box. Overall Thoughts: Well..at least I didn't pay $120 a box for this...Yeesch. Actually it was a pretty solid start in Box #1. A Gurriel autograph to #25 an Moncada Chrome Refractor rookie, along with a 1st Day Issue Card, and a Photo Variation. I thought this was start of something good...but it all in went downhill fast and never came close to recovering. The photography is top notch, but man...these autographs are BADDDD. I really wish card companies wouldn't jack prices up of stuff with these "guaranteed hits" when 80% of the "hits" are pretty awful. I'd be more happy with products like Stadium Club having higher odds on autos but a smaller autograph checklist, then promising two autos of guys that literally have no value in this hobby. Like 1:3 gold parallels are worth more than some of these guys autos. Just like last year, I got absolutely BLASTED on the autos with outside of Gurriel and Ryon Healy (who's auto isn't even a $10 card) just a bunch of scrubby autos. The parallels weren't that great either, I only got some good names in the 1:3 gold parallel and even with THOSE, the number of stars I pulled was maybe 4 or 5. It was cool getting a couple of Judge base rookies, but after those two cards I hit in Box 1 (which I literally hit out of the first 4 packs of cards), there was NOTHING exciting afterwards. My advice on this product, if you must, buy blasters, this is 100% avoidable at it's current price point. Hell, I got destroyed at HALF it's price point. Just a massacre. Safe to say my lucky streak is O-V-E-R. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come with 6 Boxes of Allen & Ginter and 3 Optic on the way. Here's pics of the cards

EBay Pickups From The Last Month

I haven't had a pickups post in almost a month and a half so I gotta lot of catching up to do! In between ripping all these boxes, I have some Ebay pickups. Here they are from the last month!

97-98 E-X 2001 Tim Duncan RC BGS 9.5

The E-X is one of my favorite basketball series of all time, especially the first three years of the product. I absolutely love it. I owned the non graded version of this card when I first collected, but this time around I decided to get a nicer 9.5 Gem Mint version. Can't go wrong with a graded Timmy Rookie!

1990 Score Supplemental Emmitt Smith RC PSA 9

Another card and I needed to reacquire (I believe I used to own a PSA 8). It's Emmitt's best rookie card and I've wanted it back ever since I decided to start collecting again.

1994 Finest Ken Griffey Jr.

A card I've always wanted ever since I was a kid, but never bought it until now. Such a cool looking card! Well worth the 4 bucks I paid for it!

2016 Topps Undisputed A.J. Styles Autograph (#40/99)

Here's my "once in every few months" wrestling purchase. I've been wanting an A.J. Styles autograph for a while now and jumped at the chance to add this nice on card auto of him from the highest end wrestling product there is. A great autograph of "The Face That Runs The Place".

1979-80 Topps Julius Erving PSA 8

I love picking up Graded Hall of Fame Vintage Base  Cards. They don't cost much and are just cool additions to the collection. Here's a nice late 70's base card of Dr. J.

97-98 Fleer Ultra Ultrabilities Superstar Kevin Garnett

NOTHING BEATS 90'S INSERTS!! I mean look at this beauty. Shiny foil, die cut design, just a visual masterpiece. I absolutely love this KG.

97-98 Metal Universe Titanium Kevin Garnett PSA 10

But not as much as I love THIS KG! I've been wanting to add a Titanium insert card for a LONG time. It's one of my favorite 90's inserts made. Such an awesome looking card. I was locked on this card from the moment I saw it for auction. There was no doubt in my mind I was going to win it!

95-96 Flair Michael Jordan PSA 9

This card is too cool looking to be just a basic base card. I think Flair cards are underrated and this card is just so slick. Can never go wrong with MJ, even it's just a base card.

92-93 Topps Gold Michael Jordan PSA 9

I think my obsession with gold cards started at a young age, because I used to love Topps Gold and Topps BlackGold cards. It's not like they are rare or anything, but still, I just love the simplicity of the card. Classic Topps 90's design and the greatest of all time. Great combo!

95-96 Collector's Choice You Crash The Game Gold Michael Jordan PSA 9

Again...that dang gold foil finish is enough for me to have to have this card! I used to love the You Crash the Game series in Collector's Choice. In fact, I won a couple times in football (I remember winning with both Errict Rhett and Dan Marino). I definitely think these are underrated as well, as this is the tougher Gold Set version.

16-17 Gold Standard Karl Anthony Towns AU Autograph (#08/79)

Yep..it's GOLD Standard lol. Gold Standard is one of my favorite Panini Basketball sets, but instead of gambling on a box for $75 why not just a card from the set that I actually want for $20 less? A nice bold on card signature of KAT!

1998-98 Fleer Brilliants Illuminators Dirk Nowitzki PSA 9

Another thing I love picking up is graded Vince Carter and Dirk Rookies. They don't cost much and are really cool to own. This is a nice rookie insert of Dirk from Fleer Brilliants.

98-99 Skybox Molten Metal Dirk Nowitzki RC PSA 9

Another graded Dirk rookie! Molten Metal are really cool looking cards and for under $10 you can't go wrong with this Dirk!

02-03 Topps Pristine Gold Refractor Tracy McGrady (#41/50)

Seems like Gold is a running theme here! Pristine is a kind of forgotten Topps brand, but the Gold Refractors are NICE in person and this was a must have for me!

16-17 Donruss Optic Anthony Davis/Russell Westbrook Pickups

Got all three of these for less than 4 bucks. Just cheap additions to the PC.

99-00 E-X Genuine Coverage Grant Hill Game Worn Jersey

Back when game used cards MEANT something! This was a $7 pickup and well worth it. I remember paying $75 for a similar Grant Hill (99-00 Fleer Focus Feel The Game) when they first came out. Now..nobody cares about plain 1 color swatches (especially white colored swatches). Back in 1999 though? These were still high in demand. If I ever come across older school game used cards, I do my best to make a run at them. I still love em!

2017 Topps Tribute Autographs Red Parallel Aaron Judge (#172/199)

Yeah..I had to do it. I wanted to add a Aaron Judge Autograph to my collection but didn't wanna pay an arm and a leg for it. Though this wasn't cheap, it's still cheaper than the other alternatives. I think it's an underrated on card rookie auto and I love it!

16-17 Gold Standard Golden Pairs Vince Carter/Kevin Garnett (#1/15)

Ok...couldn't go a few cards without another GOLD card lol. This card is absolutely stunning and though I own full game worn jerseys of both guys, I just had to have this card. The even better thing is I only paid $5 for it because I had EBay bucks to use up!

98-99 Topps East/West Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant BGS 9.5

And finally last but not least...this cool dual sided insert of MJ/Kobe. If you recall, I bought a box of 98-99 Topps Series 2 looking for one of these cards. Although I did pull a couple, it wasn't the MJ/Kobe so I decided to just buy one graded. One day, I hope to add the refractor version of this card as well, but for now, this will do!

And that's it!! Phew, finally done!

Box Breaks: 4 Hangers and 4 Blasters of 2017 Topps Archives

So this will be the 2nd time around I'm busting some Topps Archives retail. I fared fairly decent the last time around pulling an auto. I also picked up the hanger packs because you get one 1960 Topps Rookie Star insert in every pack so hoping to get a Judge out of one. Can I just say again how much fun it's been opening baseball cards? Even if it's retail and even at the end of the day you lose your shirt value wise for the most part, it's just been a fun experience ripping packs and hunting for Aaron Judge. As long as the experience is great, to me that's part of the cost of ripping packs. Anyways, here's what I got this time around

4 Hanger Packs

1960 Topps Rookie Stars (1 per pack)

1959 Bazooka Insert (1:7)
Paul Konerko

1960 Topps Rookie Stars (1:14)
Aaron Judge

Overall Thoughts: In my opinion the definition of a solid, fun enjoyable break. Nothing earth shattering, but 3 Different Judges, A Trout coin, inserts of Bryant and Correa, a Low Numbered Nomar parallel, a couple Bryce Harper inserts, a Miggy Gold Parallel Variation and pack wise the Jeter Green Foil was a super tough pull (really surprised those don't sell for more..I mean I'm not saying it should be a $20 card or anything, but I expected it to be selling for at least $10 and they seem to go for $5). Basically full of stars and I had a blast opening it all! Since I've pulled what I wanted (i.e. the Judges for my PC), I'm probably done with Archives for the year. So next on the horizon will be 4 boxes of Stadium Club (should be in Monday, but probably won't open until next weekend because of work) and 6 boxes of Allen & Ginter (again, it'll come in Friday, but might have to wait on opening it until the next weekend depending on how much time I have). Here's pics of the better cards!

Box Breaks: 2 Boxes of 2017 Topps Tier Baseball

So this was the "Grand Finale" of my weekend of busting boxes. Now I was terrified of this break after seeing NUMEROUS brutal breaks of this. I thought after the luck I had all weekend I was FOR SURE going to end on a rough note. My only saving grace is I had preordered these boxes at below $100 per box instead of the ridiculous over $130 a box it is now. So did I get totally hosed? Let's find out!

Box 1

Autos
Danny Duffy (#127/300)
Break Out Auto Redemption Ken Giles

Jersey Relic

Alex Bregman (#238/331)

Prodigious Patches Platinum

Eric Hosmer (1#1)

Box #2

Jersey Relic
Freddie Freeman (#169/331)

Auto
Jharel Cotton (#245/300)

Auto/Jersey
Nomar Mazara (#39/75)

Overall Thoughts: So I'm not going to lie, I slowly started uncovered the first card on box #1 and saw "One of One" and my heart started RACING. I thought...man NO WAY this could possibly be better than everything else I had pulled throughout the weekend. I saved the card for last and the rest of the break was....BRUTALLLL. Man, it was pretty much as bad as advertised with my only saving grace being this mystery 1 of 1 I was holding on to. Then I unveiled it and it was....Eric Hosmer. Cool pull, but honestly deflating as I was hoping for a MONSTER.  The crazy thing is this is the 2nd Royals 1 of 1 I've pulled since coming back to collecting. The first one was the Alex Gordon Topps Tribute Superfractor Autograph if you recall last year. Just like the Gordon, the Hosmer didn't stay in my collection very long as literally not even an hour later  I sold the card to a member of Blowout Cards for $100 bucks. The 1 of 1 did not end up saving the entire break, but it could've been MUCH worse. The Hosmer still will end up making my top 5 pulls, which shows how great this weekend was as 3 new cards ended up making the list. Here's a pic of the cards I pulled and boy was it a fun weekend!! I'll be busting some Topps Archives Retail Hangers and Blasters tomorrow.
