Box Breaks: 3 Hanger Boxes of 2017-18 Threads Basketball

This is the first break since that EPIC weekend I had earlier this month. Nothing mind blowing here though. Just a quick retail break of 2017-18 Panini Threads Basketball. Threads format is unique as it's basically just one 3 card pack and an oversized memorabilia box topper per box for 20 bucks. I got mine off Ebay for $18 a piece so I saved a little money. Not expecting much, but this product intrigued me enough to give it a whirl. Here's what I got

Base Cards Bradley Beal
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Donovan Mitchell RC
Dennis Smith Jr. RC
Bam Adebayo RC

Dazzle
Martin Gortat (#175/199)
Tobias Harris (#126/199)

Red Dazzle

Guerschon Yabusele (#39/99)

Box Topper Memorabilia
Jameer Nelson
Ricky Rubio
Zach LaVine

Overall Thoughts: Meh..pretty bad for the price. The good news is I did pull 2 really good rookies out of the 3 card packs (including Donovan Mitchell). The bad news, everything else was bad. The Memorabilia cards are an awesome concept..they are HUGE (5x7)..but the player checklist is littered with weak players. Jameer Nelson?! Really? In 2018? LaVine was my best hit but that's not saying much. You would THINK that maybe the base rookies would help some semblance of value since they are kind of tough to hit (I mean you get one rookie card in one $20 box basically) but the Mitchell looks like a $5-$6 card tops. I had low expectations for this and it basically is what I thought it would be. Pics of the cards

Box Breaks: 4 Boxes of 2017-18 FOTL National Treasures Basketball...UN-BE-LIEV-ABLE!!!!

To say there was a TON of pressure for this break to deliver would be THE understatement of the CENTURY. Bowman more than delivered the goods, but this was the main break of the weekend and there was soooooo much riding on this. Like I stated before, breaking this stuff is a GIANT RISK. Only because of the 100% guaranteed profit you get if you just decide to sell these boxes (as of today Blowout is buying these boxes at $1500, that's TRIPLE the investment). I'm not going to lie..I briefly thought about it, but what fun is buying this product without ripping it? I get it..free money but still, the chance to pull absolute MONSTERS is just too enticing for me. As the time came I started getting nervous. I was worried I used all my luck on Bowman and this would be a huge letdown. Worried that not only would I not pull anything great, but I would also actually end up LOSING money on the break as a whole. I had flashbacks to Topps Luminaries Baseball,.like $320 for 2  cards that were worth a combined $15...or even my recent Optic case. But still..I went with my gut and broke it. And now..here are the results..the results I have to live with...

Overall Thoughts: If you don't really follow basketball, you might not understand just HOW FREAKING BEYOND UNREAL AWESOME this break was!!!! Remember the Bowman break? Yeah.....this makes THAT look like an absolute BUST. This is a rookie driven product and I ABSOLUTELY KILLED IT. Remember the Jaren Kendall being my best pull ever? After this break..it seriously dropped to 4! So what makes it so great? Those limited edition Rookie Patch Autos numbered to 15. Those cards are on FIRE and high demand. So box one seemed absolutely brutal until I got to my Rookie Patch (the last card of the box). I saw Lakers and immediately got excited thinking it was Lonzo Ball or Kyle Kuzma...nope Josh Hart. Meh..right? Well even THAT card is a big money card. I sold it for $700. Just like that, my 2nd best pull ever in my life..and it ONLY got better from there. Box 2 was the most balanced, I got a SWEET Steph Curry patch card numbered to 10, I got a Frank Ntilikina On Card Auto to 25, and an OG Anunoby Rookie Patch Redemption numbered to 15. And just like that, the Anunoby became my biggest pull ever. He's not even considered one of the top flight rookies, but there have only been two redemptions sold and both sold for $1,250! By that time, with all the hits I had gotten, I had basically already covered the cost of the 4 boxes. Maybe I wouldn't make much profit, but at least it wasn't a bloodbath and I could enjoy opening the last two boxes with not much pressure. And then box 3 happened...it started out so bleak..I hit a TMac auto as the 2nd to last card (I was thinking well at least I like T Mac even though that's like maybe a $50 card at most) and then I slowly revealed the Rookie Patch..saw Lakers...and YES...this time it WAS LONZO BALL. An absolutely BEAUTIFUL ROOKIE AUTOGRAPH PATCH CARD. I couldn't believe it...I was in SHOCK...before this weekend, $350 was the high value of a card I had pulled..now i'm pulling multiple cards in the high 3 figure to 4 figure range like it's NOTHING!! AS beautiful as the Ball card and as much as I'd love to keep it, I have a pending sale for the card as we speak. The sale price? $4,500!!!! YEP...$4,500!! Just unbelievable. I can't see topping this...ever. Oh and the last box? Yielded a De'Aaron Fox Rookie Patch Auto to 15 that I sold for $1,500! 4 boxes and 3 cards worth 1200K or more. I'm still in shock as I type. THAT'S WHY I WANTED TO BREAK THIS STUFF!! The feeling of pulling something as HUGE as I what I pull is priceless within itself. I'm only selling because I mean...these are offers I cannot refuse. I can use that money to funnel other purchases plus I get the PC stuff I pulled from my cases for free. What a weekend...hands down the most fun I've ever had opening up stuff. No way will this be EVER replicated. So yeah, the Top 5 is totally different (though might stay how it is the rest of the year...it's going to be SUPER tough to break the Top 5 now). Every collector has their day in the sun...mine was finally this weekend!!! Here's pics of all the cards. (Anonunby isn't pictured since it's just a redemption card)

Overall Thoughts: I am not a prospect guy, I only took a shot at this because of the  chance at an Ohtani auto, but I am not understating when I say this was my best break ever. Not of the year...EVER. Seriously..if my 30 years of being in this hobby, this case was my best ever. The ironic thing..my biggest pull of my career..is of a guy who I have zero clue on who he is. That Jeren Kendall Red Refractor auto to 5 I pulled? It's the best hit value wise I've ever had. I ended up selling the card on Blowout to a collector for $900.00. I've NEVER sold a card for that much. Closest was like $875 for a LeBron James SP Authentic Auto Rookie (I don't wanna talk about THAT..that makes me cry lol) years ago, but even that wasn't a pack pulled card. My highest sale for a pack pulled was probably the Kobe Gala Auto I pulled a couple of years ago. This more than DOUBLES that...and it's of a prospect of all people!! Now with prospects, it's a risky sale, if Kendall becomes a superstar, I might be shaking my head down the road knowing I sold a 1st Bowman Prospect Auto card for a "mere" $900. If he flops, I might be thanking my lucky stars I made the deal. All in all, I'll take it and the crazy thing? This case was freaking LOADED. I not only pulled a Walker Buehler base auto, but his ORANGE refractor auto numbered to 25! Only one has sold on Ebay and that was for $400.00. So in one case I have my new Top #1 and #2 pulls of the year. I wasn't even done because I also pulled two other red parallels numbered to 5 (already sold the Colton Welker for $50), a Hunter Greene Orange Shimmer parallel to 25 (about a $50-$75 itself) ANOTHER Jaren Kendall Auto, this time the blue parallel ($120-$140ish value) and a Brendan McKay base auto. Not to mention the little things like 12 Ohtani base rookies (they come 1 per box) and numerous base/inserts of all the top rookies/prospects like Ozzie Albies, Rhys Hoskins, Vlad. Jr, Ronald Acuna, Rafael Devers, just to name a few. Bowman is rarely my cup of tea yet this is where I pull my best card ever. Unbelievable. The crazy thing? At current prices, these hits wouldn't cover the cost of a case!! How INSANE is that?! Luckily, I didn't play CLOSE to current prices and I came welllll ahead. Now I was sooooo lucky with this case, it has me super worried about my National Treasures Breaks (those could be uggggggly) but hopefully that's not the case. I DO NOT recommend buying Bowman at the current price, but if you ever get lucky and stumble upon in the $99 a box range, definitely take a shot! Pics off the good stuff!!

My BIG Wax Purchases!!

So earlier in the week I made reference to a couple of pretty HUGE wax purchases I was able to make last week. Well, now that I officially have them safe and sound, allow me to show them off!

2018 Bowman 12 Box Hobby Case

I had zero intentions of buying Bowman Hobby, in fact I had made a couple of orders online at Wal Mart to buy some blasters since Hobby was so ridiculously overprice. But then Topps decided to put a limited stock of hobby boxes on their website for $99.99 and they literally sold out in like a minute. Considering cases of this go for north of $1800, it was a HUGE deal to pick this up at the price it was at. Obviously the big pull os Ohtani but there's plenty of other nice young players like Rhys Hoskins, Ozzie Albies, Ronald Acuna etc to be had as well. At the price I got it for, it is definitely worth the price for a chance at an Ohtani!

2017-18 National Treasures Basketball First Off The Line

Probably the biggest wax purchase of my life so far. National Treasures FOTL has been highly anticipated for a long time because of the deep rookie class. Regular boxes of National Treasurers are already preselling for $1,000.00. The FOTL versions have an exclusive Rookie Autograph Patch numbered to 15. Not only that, but you can buy at the MSRP of $500 which is an absolute STEAL for this product considering how high in demand it is. First off the line has been hit and miss for me this season for basketball. I got shut out of Prizm and Optic but did get Select, but with soooooo many people looking to grab National Treasuers, I felt like it would be a miracle to get a box of this stuff. Well..I ended up with 4!!! I used the app and though I was having some trouble, two of my orders actually went through! I was super excited. I would've been happy with 1, but 2?! Awesome! Considering a Panini Rep stated that over 120,000 unique users were trying to get 650 boxes, I felt more than lucky to get what i got. Then on Monday, I got an email from Panini. Apparantly one of the transactions where I tried to get through but ended up getting cancelled, shouldn't have been cancelled after all! They said I could purchase the additional box if I wanted because of a glitch in their system! I didn't hesistate to say yes! Now becuase this stuff is in sooo much demand I wanted to increase my chances of geting a box so I set my Dad up with an account so he could try to get one. He struck out, until getting the same email Monday! So I ended up with 4 boxes!! Now the safe and smart thing to do is to flip this for at least double my money. It WOULD be easy, but I don't see the fun in that! I'm a collector and for better or worse, I'm opening this stuff up! Why? Am I crazy? Well..YEAH lol. But seriously, this is a product I'd never in a million years get a chance to open (would NEVER pay over 1 grand for this stuff) so why not take advantage and rip them and hope for a monster RPA like Jayson Tatum or Donovan Mitchell?? That's what I'm all about! So this weekend with Bowman and National Treasurers basketball will definitely be one of the most interesting weekends in my card collecting career! Really looking forward to it!!
