Top 100 Cards of My Collection-#84 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. RC

OK, so back to reality and here's the last card on the countdown of the week and it's actually a pretty iconic card in baseball card history. In 1989 Upper Deck decided to enter the baseball card market with a splash and that's exactly what they did. The first truly super premium card set, it blew away what Topps, Fleer, Donruss, and Score were doing at the time. Upper Deck decided to hedge their bets that a 2nd generation phenom by the name of Ken Griffey Jr would be baseball's next greatest player and so who better than Griffey to be card #1 in their inaugural set? One of the might popular and highly collected cards of all time, this card would probably be even more legendary than it is had it not been for nagging injuries throughout Griffey's career. Despite that though, Griffey was still one of the greatest players in the 90's and early 2000s and most believe he did it the right way in an era where steroids were running rampant among baseball. Being a kid during the 90's it should be no surprise that Griffey was and is still may favorite baseball player of all time. I remember picking this up at a local card show for $35 and thinking that it was a steal. Sure it's
more affordable now, but one cannot deny the historic impact this card
has in the hobby,
